My grandmother, Evelyn Woolf (Polachek) lived at the Hotel Croydon on East 86th St. in Manhattan. From about 1947 to 195864 I would take the train by myself from our house in Bronxville, N.Y. to Grand Central Station and walk up Madison Ave to 86th St. and Granny Evelyn. She had a German maid, Elsie, who gave my lunch and coffee ice cream. Granny Evelyn played canasta and other games with me. I like remembering her.
